Maps and Information on Trout Lochs and
Rivers of the Scottish Islands
Enough trout fishing to keep even the most
energetic and dedicated of fly fishermen going for several
lifetimes, the Scottish Islands are home to hundreds, perhaps
thousands, of trout lochs, with a fishing flavour all of their own,
from the rich Machair lochs of Uist, to the wild lochs of Lewis and
Harris; from the remote lochs of Shetland to the fertile waters of
Orkney, most accessible to the visiting trout fisherman for a few
pounds, sometimes none at all. A true fishing paradise indeed!
The red dots on the map below highlight
the main Scottish Island groups of Shetland, Orkney, Lewis
and Harris, The Uists and Benbecula, Skye, Mull, Islay and
Jura. Clicking on a red dot will take you to a page showing
detailed maps of the trout fishing waters of the selected Island
group with additional information on the fishing available.

In addition to the information provided
here, I would recommend that anyone planning a fishing or
walking trip in Scotland should equip themselves with a compass
and the appropriate Ordnance Survey map. The most useful of the
O.S. maps for the fisherman is the Landranger series, scale
1:50,000. For each of the lochs and rivers listed here, I have given the
relevant O.S. Map number. See
Ordnance
Survey Maps.
For a comprehensive guide to fishing on the lochs and rivers
of Scotland, I would recommend that you invest in a copy of
Bruce Sandison's excellent book:
Rivers & Lochs of Scotland: The Angler's Complete Guide 2013/14
